[12 Oct ’15] The Catalog (Vol.1): This Week In Child Safety & More

introducing catalog

Hi

It has been a while since we have been thinking of putting together a weekly newsletter – one that collates interesting articles, videos, papers, posters, news items etc from across the internet.

Presenting Volume 1 of The Catalog. The focus is, of course, on Child Sexual Abuse, Child Safety, Internet Safety etc. Occasional fun and interesting tidbits from other corners will make appearances.

We hope that you will be more than a reader. We hope that you will consider contributing. If you come across any interesting news that you would want to share through this platform, write to us at aarambh.prerana@gmail.com or whatsapp it to 8652625505. We will give due credit for your contribution.

For this first edition, we would like to thank Member of Parliament Rajeev ChandrashekarNirmal Initiative – Vrindavan, Dr. Klaus Beier from Germany who presented at The Foundation‘s ASCCSA 2015, Tulir & Satyameva Jayate who have been inadvertent contributors to the 1st volume.

Without further ado…

#Quotes of the Week:

“God Weeps”

– Pope Francis talking about Child Sexual Abuse in the Clergy by Members of the Clergy.

“Child sexual abuse is one of the most pervasive social problems faced by our society. Its impact is profound because of the sheer frequency with which it occurs and because of the trauma brought to the lives of the children who have experienced this crime. Child sexual abuse is an epidemic…. Ensure the examination of the child witness by giving due protection to him and bringing the child out of the pressure”

– Justice PS Tyagi of the Delhi High Court

The effectiveness of online petitions can be debated but ones that work, have worked really well. We have already put our names on it and if you are feeling optimistic today, endorsing the document is just a click away.

Chuppi Todo: Breaking the Silence on CSA

This a brave book. A powerful document forged in survivor voices that shatters the quiet. We call it the ‘culture of silence’ but almost every story makes it seem like a ‘conspiracy’: one in which all us have played a part. It is a damning critique of our nation and popular notion of the ‘Indian family.’

Doing Restorative Justice in Cases of Sexual Violence: A Practical Guide

Restorative justice is a theory of justice that emphasizes repairing the harm caused by criminal behavior. Rather than just punishing the offender, the approach of restorative justice focuses on the needs of the victims, the involved community and offenders. This 52 page guide by the Leuven Institute of Criminology, Belgium is eye-opening, challenging and provocative.
