Making An Aarambh: How We Created India’s First Online Resource Centre Against Child Sexual Abuse & Exploitation
A Series of Firsts
Last year on 17th April 2014, www.aarambhindia.org was announced as the first online resource portal against child sexual abuse & exploitation in India. This first public announcement took place at the first ever Annual Stakeholder’s Conference on Child Sexual Abuse held in Mumbai.
The Circle Completes Itself
8 months after the announcement, the website went live. This year, team Aarambh was invited to give a little presentation we titled ‘Making An Aarambh: How We Created India’s First Online Resource Portal on Child Sexual Abuse & Exploitation‘. It was received by a crowd of our peers in the sector with cheer and goodwill. There was something a little poetic about the circle completing itself.
Why We Needed a Resource Center
Aarambh Co-Director Uma Subramanian strikes the first note on day 2 of ASCCSA as she spoke to the audience on the need to invest in good resources that are simple, straightforward and social.
Collaboration is at the Heart of All We Do
Aarambh Communications Manager Siddharth P. took the stage next to explain how collaboration had helped us put the resource center together and how only collaboration would take the initiative into the future.
Preventing Sexual Abuse in Shelter Homes
Ms. Priti Patkar, founder of our mothership Prerana, chaired an esteemed panel on the timely issue of preventing and dealing with sexual abuse within shelter homes. The panel included Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Raigad Chairperson Manisha Tulpule, HAQ Founder Enakshi Ganguly and Chairholder of UNCRC Policy Centre Ms. Asha Bajpai.
