[The Coop] Surviving under Stress: A Report on Child Sexual Abuse Victims & Families in Lockdown

Eid Mubarak!

The festivities are going be subdued this year & that’s all the more reason to keep sending out the mubaraks with love, warmth and (virutal) hugs to everyone out there. Welcome to the The Coop No. 7.

This week we release our next assessment report on how child victims of sexual abuse & families in Mumbai are coping with the world’s most stringent & confusing lockdown. Precarities have deepened. Jobs have been lost. Income has turned into a trickle. Families worry about basic essentials today and about resuming their lives & livelihoods tomorrow. The choices they have to make are getting tighter. On-going court cases add to their lockdown anxieties.

In some brighter news, we have achieved our fund raising goals on our online donation page. A big shout out & hazaar thank yous to everyone who pitched in. Relief work is ongoing and details are available in the report. But as you will observe, the need from the ground is relentless.

We have a festive gift for all parents from our colleagues Sawleha, Teemol & Sudipta who put together 15 interesting and simple facts about Eid & its cultural history that you can share with your children. Sudipta has also been busy collaborating with the wonderful folks at Agents of Ishq for something they are calling ‘Masturbation May’. It’s terrific… but we’ll give you your space and allow you to check it out for yourself.

& finally… webinars!

Child Victims & Families

We spoke with 128 families of child victims of sexual offences in Mumbai to understand their needs & requirements at this time. The report chronicles their lived realities & their experiences of trying to access basic necessities, aid & relief during lockdown. It is also a record of their worries, concerns & lamentations as they cope with the situation they find themselves in.
