On The Eve of Children’s Day, We Are Hosting The First National Meet of Grassroots NGOs working Against Sexual Offences of Children #TaraPara

63 participants representing 34 organizations across 4 states are in the city to study its child protection systems, learn from the experts and share their experiences and impressions.

Participants will be learning skills on ‘How to work with Men & Boys across their communities to Prevent Child Sexual Offences?’

The first edition of ‘Karwaan’ – a national meet of an alliance of organizations from Tripura, Odisha, Jharkhand & Telangana is being held in Mumbai from 11th November 2019 to Children Day i.e. 14th November 2019. For the past two years the participating organizations have been instrumental in preventing as well as responding to sexual abuse of children even in some of the most remote corners of India.

Since the launch of the alliance titled ‘The Aarambh India Regional Alliance’ in 2017, these frontline workers and their organizations have carried out essential child protection work in some of the most marginalized and under-resourced areas in the country – from organizing large scale awareness campaigns to delivering simple personal safety training (safe & unsafe touches etc) schools to supporting victims and families to strengthening government systems.

The 1st ‘Karwaan’ National Meet is the first time partners in each state are meeting and learning from their counterparts in the other states. The focus of the meet is to orient the participants towards developing skills on ‘How to work with Men & Boys across their communities to Prevent Child Sexual Offences’. The members will be skilled and encouraged to return to their field and work intensively with men & boys in their communities towards divesting them of misogyny and sexism and getting them on board as allies in movements against gender violence of all kinds.

As most participants are frontline workers who face issues of burnout, there is a focus on self-care and team building through creative expression.

We look forward now to over three days of learning, leisure and much much more. Stay tuned & Follow us on #TaraPara on our facebook, instagram & twitter.
