[7th May 2016] The Child & The Hospital
How to Safeguard Rights & Interests of Child Victims of Sexual Offences while Journeying Through The Medical System
On 7th May, 2016, Prerana’s Aarambh India Initiative in collaboration with UNICEF, CEHAT, Savitribai Phule Gender Resource Centre (SPGRC) and SNEHA invites frontline social workers and community workers working with children for a specialized training and orientation on working with Hospital Systems while dealing with cases of sexual offences.
Navigating the hospital system can be an overwhelming experience, especially in times of urgency and duress. Like when you are escorting a child victim of sexual offences for medical care or examination. It can be a confusing and stressful process for us. And more so, for the child .
An informed and well-resourced frontline worker aware of the policies, infrastructure and best practices to be followed can support and smoothen the journey of the child victim and family. By doing so, we can ensure proper treatment and care to avoid re-victimization. This can help the child take the first step towards eventual rehabilitation and justice.
This training envisions to equip every worker who comes in contact with the hospital systems while working of case of sexual offences against children with knowledge and information required to engage with hospitals and other related stakeholders.
It will clarify our roles within a hospital setting as a support person/trusted adult and address how to overcome practical on-ground challenges.

Sending the frontline social worker to Maharashtra is practically not possible for voluntary organisations who do not receive any funding. To really move against child abuse,’inclusion’ should be the matra, which is not provided by your ‘Maharashtra training’.If possible conduct workshops in major cities and spread the word.Let the mass movement begin.
