POSCO On The Ground III
Collectively Addressing On-Ground Challenges of Working with The Law On Protecting Children From Sexual Offences.
“In the little world in which children have their existence, whosoever brings them up, there is nothing so finely perceived and so finely felt, as injustice.”
– Charles Dickens
On 16th July, 2016, Prerana in partnership with UNICEF cordially invites you to the third edition of ‘POCSO On the Ground‘ (POTG). ‘POTG’ is an interactive and open discussion series that has consistently brought to light the various challenges of working with child victims of sexual offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012. It is an effort to take the conversation around POCSO and justice & care for child victims of sexual offences ahead in a manner that is constructive, progressive and addresses the best interests of the child.
Hoping to address the challenges highlighted in the previous editions, over 20 civil society organizations have participated in a series of year-long consultations anchored in Mumbai. Their focus was on three key areas:-
1. Mandatory Reporting & Age of Consent
2. Rehabilitation of Child Victims of Sexual Offences
3. Uniformity in Health Systems
At the third edition of POTG, each sub-group will present their progress before you; the breakthroughs as well as their lingering confusions. And we can collectively chart the way forward. Your expertise, experience and point of view will help enrich the discussion and debate.
Intended outcomes include a broad consensus on gray areas like mandatory reporting, recommendations on gaps in the text and implementation of the law and a plan of action for implementing solutions to identified challenges.
We are looking forward to collectively working together for better laws and systems for some of most vulnerable children.
