holi

Following the awareness-raising Violence Against Women series, we commence our Violence Against Children programmes. This event has presentations by Annie Zaidi (Child Labour) and Reema Agarwal (Children and War). Two NGOs will also participate: Uma Subramanian from Prerana’s Aarambh initiative and children from Salaam Baalak Trust will read their poems.

Annie Zaidi is the author of several books including Gulab and Love Stories # 1 to 14. Her first collection of essays, Known Turf:Bantering with Bandits and Other True Tales, was shortlisted for the Vodafone Crossword book awards (non-fiction).

Reena Agrawal has an M.A and M.Phil in Sociology. Her engagement with education has been one of complete commitment. She uses story-telling as a means to understand regional literature and teaches courses in Mass Media.

Salaam Baalak Trust was set up after Mira Nair’s film Salaam Bombay ! It has helped many children come off the streets into a safe and nurturing environment. The objective is to provide them every opportunity for holistic development.

Aarambh: An initiative of Prerana against child exploitation. Uma Subramanian will talk about protecting victims of sexual abuse.

Bakhti Music for the event will be provided by The National Streets for Performing Arts (NSPA), a non-profit initiative to revive a culture of public performances and support the livelihood of artists.
